Zodiac se concentre sur un sadique sexuel qui a terrorisé la Californie du Nord dans les années 70. Cette histoire, inspirée d'un fait réel, a défrayé la chronique. Dès lors, trois personnes entreront en scène, bien décidées à mettre un terme aux agissements du "serial killer". Durant l'enquête, 2500 personnes furent suspectées, mais le mystère sur son identité reste entier car celui-ci n'a jamais été retrouvé...
